Types of Garage Doors
There are several types of different Garage Doors such as, Up and Over, Sectional, Roller and Side Hinged.
Up and Over Garage Doors
An Up and Over Garage Door consists of a one piece panel of material that glides back into your Garage that can be operated manually or automated with a motor. There are two different systems the Up and Over Garage Door can be fitted to, Canopy and Retractable. Up and Over Garage Doors have no insulation and are not a completely sealed product. They also have to be operated while your car is away from the Garage Door as they swing out when opened.
Up and Over Retractable Garage Door
Retractable Up and Over Garage Doors roll back inside your Garage along a system of tracks guided by rollers. They operate with side mounted lifting arms with tension springs so there is no need for cables. An advantage of a Retractable Garage Door is that it can be automated at any time.
Up and Over Canopy Garage Door
Canopy Up and Over Garage Doors work on a pivoting system. When the door is in the open poistion a third of the door is left outside of the Garage which forms a Canopy. The system operates by a tension spring attached horizontally above your Garage Door with drums either side of the tension spring attached to cables to lift your Garage Door. Canopy Garage Doors can be automated but requires a Canopy Conversion Kit which makes it more expensive to automate.
Sectional Garage Doors
Sectional Garage Doors operate vertically in individual panels. They have no swing out motion so they can fit almost any shape and size of a Garage and make full use of space behind it and in front which allows you to operate your Garage Door while your car is very close to it. Sectional Garage Doors are designed to be more secure and are a fully sealed product with also the option of having them insulated.
